These are OK. They are just what one would expect except there is no way to get them out of the book without cutting them. I ripped the front and back covers off the book and now can tear the individual pages out, copy them and put them in my music binder.

The lines are soooo close together, its horrible!!! There’s way to many staffs on the page and I can’t teach my 6 year old with these cause we can’t see what we write it’s so tiny. There should Only be 4 staffs per page. I DO NOT recommend at all

This collection of Caryl Churchill's early plays is astounding. Tony Kushner rightly calls her the best playwright currently writing and these plays immediately make that clear. Churchill is an unabashedly feminist playwright whose work addresses issues of power and gender throughout history. Writing in the 1960s and 1970s, her plays are experimental, politically motivated, and ideologically challenging. They are also brilliantly clever, innovative, shocking, and often darkly funny."Owners" is the most straight-forward selection here and centers around real estate agents in working-class England. "Traps" explores some similar issues of working-class England but approaches them from a more lyrical, less structured way; Churchill prefaces the play by explaining that it does not conform to the limits of reality, but is ruled by the imagination. This becomes more clear as the play progresses, and the final moments of the play--wherein all of the characters take turns bathing in a washtub onstage--take on a beautiful, almost hallucinatory quality.I skipped over "Light Shining on Buckinghamshire" and went straight to "Vinegar Tom," which is a brilliant account of the English witch hunts. Churchill presents the play from a feminist perspective, focusing on the plight of various women who are victimized by witch-hunters. Like Miller's "The Crucible," Churchill argues that sexual hysteria, repression, and misogyny were the driving forces behind witch hunts; Churchill's spare, stark play is considerably more cutting, more shocking, and more bleakly funny than Miller's."Cloud Nine" is undoubtedly the highlight of this volume and stands as one of the most remarkable plays of the last 50 years. Act One takes place among a family of English colonists living in Africa during the Victorian Age; Act Two is set in 1970s England. Churchill brilliantly and devastating exposes the various levels of sexual and racial oppression in both time periods; she also radically suggests casting male actors as female characters, white actors as black characters, adult actors as children, etc. to reveal new ways of understanding the complex relationships within the play. In addition to its gripping plot, "Cloud Nine" addresses issues of feminism, racial identity, homosexuality, and oppression more cleverly than perhaps any other play of its time.These plays are highly recommended for any reader interested in modern drama or gender studies. They are complex but still highly accessible and less experimental than Churchill's later work.

But the author also lauds him for his business acumen, his guileless enthusiasm and every man persona. The image of Charles waiting patiently in the cafeteria line every day refusing to pull rank has been repeated elsewhere but is reviewed in full here. It's no act. And about business, Schulman reports that:"Charles’s emphasis on growth and laser-like focus on profit were not rooted in a desire to become one of the world’s richest men. The spark that drove him to build his company and keep building it came from a different place. “He doesn’t do it to make money, never has,” said Tony Woodlief, the former Koch Industries management consultant. “It’s always just been a great, big fascinating puzzle. He’s most excited when they’ve solved some problem. ‘Golly, we buy this shipping terminal and start producing this product and holy cow, we now have an international distribution network. That stumped everybody for fifty years and we figured it out.’ That’s what he likes.”Schulman's work on the depiction of the dichotomy of David Koch is particularly compelling. A mainstay of the NYC society scene, David's largess in funding major works and edifices in the arts comes from a real place of personal values rather than any attempt to curry favor (indeed, Schulman shows he could care less). A particular example is his funding of the American Ballet Theatre, ensuring that it played in NYC venues. Koch's support vexes those bitterly opposed to his politics. Most of his peers seem to have found a way to make these thoughts co-exist.Schulman's work is also strong on Fred Koch Sr, the roots of his deep-seated hatred of Communism and his signature role in the John Birch Society. I learned a lot from this book.

I received this book as a Christmas present. The book was so enlightening I purchased it for a friend. The story of the Koch family is surprising again and again. The quirks of the brothers are only exceeded by the wealth the family has been able to amass. The notoriety that was pushed upon them was not sought. Their contributions are in marked contrast to publicity they glean. In the final chapters of the book one finds that they are not part and party to some organizations, but rather hold them in disdain. If you have any desire to know more about a family who has attempted to hold sway over our government and economy - this book is for you. It is full of surprises!

This is a well researched biography of the four Koch brothers and their families and associates. A very difficult job excellently done. Much of human interaction of strong willed exceptionally capable people with their own agendas.What is conspicuously missing is much description of the philosophy for which they have become so noted. Considering their impact on the political thinking of the US, it may be unfortunate that so little analysis is done of its impact on the US role on the world stage, especially considering its largely European origins and the competition with the political philosophies governing China and Russia. On the other hand, this probably should be the subject of major debate and analysis elsewhere.

I bought this book 1.5 years ago with the intention of understanding the inner world, motivations and thinking of these oil magnates who like to meddle in American politics. I had little expectation about liking the book as I saw it more as an exercise in learning American history. I started reading the book 4 days ago and couldn't put it down. I was very surprised and impressed by the exquisite and well-structured narrative of the Koch brothers’ life stories. The author astutely first leaves out and then slowly reveals in much later chapters the more shocking details and surprising aspects of the brothers’ politics, oil business, and family feud, a strategy that has much stronger impact as the details are learned in the context of all the information read before it. This narrative structure makes the book feel like a suspenseful crime drama. The 4 brothers and the patriarch are involved in so many influential power and money grabbing machinations, in mindboggling family feuds and excesses, and in obsessive pursuits in controlling the government, denying climate change and in brainwashing people with their capitalistic ideologies that as a reader who is not personally acquainted with that lifestyle or mentality, it feels like someone suggested, like watching some episodes of the Dallas TV series. But once removed from the book narrative the shocking realization comes that these people are real, that the events described in the book are corroborated by witnesses, news articles, and by history, and that the actions of these brothers affect all of our lives and not for the better. This will be difficult to admit for some, such as, for example, the Metropolitan Museum of Art director Thomas P. Campbell who after getting $65 million from one Koch brother renamed the Met new plaza with David Koch’s name.

I purchased these as they looked very similar to paper dolls that my sisters and I used to play with. These are a BIT different, but certainly close enough to make me reminisce. Thanks!

If you are actually looking for paper dolls, these are very nice, but if you are looking for fashion information, the book is not as helpful. The illustrations are not labelled at all, so unless you already know what you are looking at, well, you don't know what you're looking at. Try Victorian Fashions & Costumes from Harper's Bazar, 1867-1898 for research.

Dover has such wonderful reprints. These are beautiful illustrations. Also, this is a light package to send to my daughter-in-law in London.

The period fashions of these paper dolls are exquisite! A real treat for those interested in this time period! Very enjoyable!

These paper dolls are adaptations of the genuine "fashion plates" originally published in Harper's Bazar (as it was then spelled), and as such have an authentic look about them that most modern interpretations don't. From an elaborately flounced and bustled pink-and-red walking dress of 1867 to simple wasp-waisted gowns of 1898, the four dolls model a total of 32 costumes (counting the ones in which they're portrayed), all with the trademark elaborate detailing of the era. Watch how bustles develop and diminish, only to return and shrink again, and marvel at the aniline colors considered attractive to Victorian eyes. Specific dates and perhaps explanatory notes would have improved it, but it's still a useful overview of the template female dress of a distinctive period in American history and style.

As someone of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent raising a bilingual child, I was really excited about reading this to my 18-month-old son. The illustrations are bright, gorgeous and fun. It was also great to find something that was in my particular dialect of Spanish as so many of the books we find focus on customs in Central or South America. The book feels and sounds like home.

Whoever did the illustrations on this is TOP NOTCH. Love it! This should totally be a Disney story. My daughter is obsessed. If you look on youtube, there is also a song for kiki koki. Proud to read this to her as Rican momma <3
