I am a college adjunct faculty English teacher and I wanted a simple edition with notes for my class to read in the fall. I was going to order 20 of these for the class, but I am so glad I first bought one for myself. The paper edition doesn't have any spaces between the speakers, either, so it is difficult to read, even if it were written in language my students, mostly college freshmen, could easily understand. They would give up on this edition. Also, there are absolutely NO NOTES for students that define and explain some of the more obscure vocabulary and written expressions. The text underneath this edition on Amazon did NOT say that there were no notes. It is not helpful AT ALL for a new reader of Shakespeare or a reader who only read it in high school unwillingly. I am going to order something else for my class.

I purchased this to fill in for copies my students had lost last year. The size of the bool lead me to believe that the print size might be a bit easier on the eye. I could not have been more wrong.Although the pages are large 6x7, the print is minuscule--about 7-point font. That's not the worst. THERE ARE NO LINE NUMBERS OR DEMARCATIONS FOR ACT OR SCENE....Just page after page of tiny font dialogue that begins on page 2, and ends on page 71.

Lately, I've been watching various televised versions of Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, and Richard III to avoid yet-another-detective murder mystery. All was well until I recently turned my attention to viewing some of Shakespeare's "comedies," most of which I have seen in the past, minus "As You Like It" which was more pastoral than comedic, and though it had the talent of of a young Helen Mirren, I found the plot was so contrived that the play struck me as stupid. I am not alone, apparently, as I found a review by Peter Beech in The Guardian entitled "Much Ado About Nothing Much" who also thinks less of Shakespeare than we thought we should. He was pioneering, yes indeed, and I am grateful for some truly shimmering lines. Nevertheless, to me, this play is seemingly pointless.

This seems to essentially be Shakespeare's response to The Jew of Malta, so if you've read that, this will seem very familiar to you. However, the language used is far more memorable, the lead character more sympathetic, and the story shaped to fit a different genre. This means that it ends on a far less tragic note, and also that it secures its place in history as one of Shakespeare's masterpieces. Essentially, it is a story of failed revenge, love, and injustice. As to the edition itself, I found it to be greatly helpful in understanding the action in the play. It has a layout which places each page of the play opposite a page of notes, definitions, explanations, and other things needed to understand that page more thoroughly. While I didn't always need it, I was certainly glad to have it whenever I ran into a turn of language that was unfamiliar, and I definitely appreciated the scene-by-scene summaries. Really, if you want to or need to read Shakespeare, an edition such as this is really the way to go, especially until you get more accustomed to it.

I like the way this book gives both versions of the play. It makes it easier to understand Shakespeare. Currently I am taking an English literature class and it has helped me tremendously. I read the plain English side first and then went back and read the Shakespeare version and I was able to understand it better. Some of the Shakespeare gets lost when put into plain English but it’s easy to pick up the meaning after reading both versions.

The plot involves a lot of people disguising themselves as the opposite gender but in the end everyone ends up with the one they really love. In that sense it's like a light romantic comedy but it also includes a lot of the great writing that Shakespeare is known for, including many of his most famous lines, such as the "all the world's a stage" monologue, and I hadn't realized this is the play the phrase "motley fool" came from. If you like Shakespeare, this is a must read, and it's entertaining as just a fun play. This kindle version is well formatted, though no footnotes or line numbers.

I bought this product as a material for a college course, and when we got to studying it, I quickly realized the copy worse than anything I've seen in print. Not only are there no page numbers, but EVERY SINGLE PAGE is missing multiple lines from the script. No, I'm not exaggerating. There are other issues with the presentation of the dialogues and stage directions as well, but those weren't as disruptive as the major errors with this copy. So, if you just want a cover to display to feign studying Shakespeare, go for it, but honestly you could probably find a better fake for less. If you actually want to study the play and know what happens, buy anywhere else. This is not "As [I] Like It."

Alex Jack had already shared a lot of revealing evidence in his magnificent book “Hamlet by Shakespeare and Marlowe”. This one is a kind of bible on the authorship problem. Jack’s thorough work on decoding the distinctive double semantics that mark out the whole Shakespeare’s canon leaves no trace of doubt on the name hidden beneath ‘Shakespeare’.Regardless of the anger of those who try impose the orthodoxian truth, what this book reveals is beyond question. It is only a matter of time that the world will know that Christopher Marlowe’s will, after his interpreted death, was to shake a spear against those who decided that an illiterate paesant was going to be granted with the authorship of Marlowe’s legacy.

An eye-opening account of the mental patterns that keep us rooted in pain and anguish and hope for the notion that shining the light of consciousness on them can be just enough to self-correct back to health.

I can't rave enough about Dr. Sarno and how his books changed my life. The Divided Mind is my favorite, but I feel someone would need to read one of his earlier books first: Healing Back Pain, Mind Over Back Pain, or the Mind Body Prescription (I've read all of them but I think Healing Back Pain is the best). I understand why/how people can be skeptical of Dr. Sarno's theory and If you don't believe it will work for you, then it probably won't. All I can tell you is that I am 47 years old and until I read his first book last year after I was at my wits end in pain and becoming very depressed with my quality of life, I had lived with chronic, severe pain throughout my body (mostly in my neck/shoulders, sciatica, and knees), off and on since I was about 12 years old, stemming from a diagnosis of scoliosis and worsening after a car accident when I was 21. My adult life has been very limited, activity-wise, and I truly feel like I now have a new lease on life. I have been pain-free since reading Healing Back Pain more than a year ago (I did have one relapse but now have the tools to recover), and I honestly do not expect to experience back pain ever again in my lifetime. I know I sound like a paid actor or a member of a crazy cult, and, believe me, for me to say I am not in pain is unreal to me, too!! The Divided Mind is my favorite of his books but, like I said, read an earlier book first and then try this one. Good luck, and I hope your Dr. Sarno experience is as life-changing as mine was.

Life changing!!!! If you are in pain... READ THIS BOOK!!!! After 10 years of back, neck and shoulder pain, I am finally pain free. Follow Dr. Sarno's advice and go cold turkey on everything and have no fear about getting back to doing all those things you are afraid of doing!! It took me about 6-8 weeks to get pain free... it was gradual for me but damn... it works!!!!!!!

I would not have believed that you could be cured of debilitating pain just by getting a knowledge prescription. Like most of the stories with in the pages of his books I was at the end of my rope battling back, shoulder, tendinitis and other aches. After being diagnosed by a back surgeon and a chiropractor with a herniated disc two bulging discs and a compartment fracture in my lower back I thought I was broken. I was always very active and I was told to stop and let myself heal. I did chiropractic, hot cold therapy, ultrasound, electric stem, acupuncture, active release, Cupping, physical therapy, oxygen therapy, steroid pack, anti-inflammatories narcotic pain killers and was scheduled for an epidural and surgery was talked about as the final solution. I was on the phone with a friend and was telling him how broken I was when he told me that the pain was all in my head and to look up Dr. Sarno. I said he was nuts and I have the MRI's that show I am broken. He told me to watch the Dr. Sarno 20-20 interview with John Stossal and the Howard Stern interview. After seeing the videos I Immediately purchased the book Healing Back pain. The book was a heck of a lot cheaper than my co-pay so I purchased it for $10.00 on Amazon. It was truly amazing, when I read, I could feel myself actually healing. Since my Healing I have recommended Dr. Sarino's work to many people and will continue to be one of his messengers. Thank you Dr. Sarno!!

Life changing! I suffered (yes past tense) from fibromyalgia for over 10 years. It never made sense that there was no reason that could be found for the pain. In less than a month I am pain free because of this book and his other book "The Mind Body Prescription". This may sound too good to be true but I had tried everything (everything) else and nothing else worked so I figured I had nothing to lose. I am humbled and grateful to Dr Sarno for standing up to the medical establishment and thus enabling to live life again pain free.

John Sarno's work saved my life.I had been in physical pain for most of my life. I simply dealt with it. When I was 25, I began having debilitating groin pain. I had multiple surgeries and the pain seemed to get worse. Eventually, I found a therapist who specifically worked with Sarno's method. Years later, I am pain free and also am a TMS therapist. Sarno has had a profound impact on my life and I feel it is a travesty that psychosomatic medicine is not being widely embraced, despite all of the information we now have regarding the mind-body connection. There is still massive stigma that if the pain is created mentally, then it must mean that a person is "crazy." THIS IS SO FALSE. Please read Sarno's work. Please know that everyone deals with these issues and if we open our minds to other options outside traditional western medicine, we can feel much better.Your body is always talking to you, you just need to listen.

I give this book five stars. It is John E. Sarno's most recent book that he has written on TMS. I jumped into it and then realized that it would be better for me to go back and read Healing Back Pain and The Mindbody Perscription in that order. So that is exactly what I did and now I feel like this book is making much more sense to me. I highly recomend this book, but after someone has read one or both of the other books by Sarno that I mentioned above.

A "must read" if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. A more impactful book is Dr. Sarno's "Healing Back Pain." It is universal for nearly all that ails you. Insert your ailment in place of "Back Pain." You will be simultaneously healed and empowered. With subsequent books (Mind Body Prescription and The Divided Mind), Dr. Sarno seems to be trying to convince a skeptical medical community of the validity of his observations. This is the reason I only give it 4 stars. It is not written for the average reading consumer.Read all of Dr. Sarno's books and Steven Ray Ozanich's books. If you are one of the 15-20% that are willing to consider what Dr. Sarno has observed is true, you will experience the miraculous.

I read this book over the summer of 09. It is a scholarly work, written by an expert on the subject matter with notes and bibliography. I found it to be a fascinating work that turned my mind to deep reflection on the Gospel and Rule of Saint Benedict. The book is a written account of a retreat given to the monks of Holy Spirit Monastery in Conyers, Georgia by Eugene Boylan - a deceased abbot of a European Cistercian monastery who had worked as a scientist before entering monastic life. The monks considered it one of the best retreats they ever had and I can understand why. It is relevent for all who live in community - even those of us whose community is a family, spiritual or otherwise. Partnership with Christ: A Cistercian Retreat (Monastic Wisdom series)

The bes!t

In the wings to read yet. Recommended by a friend.

In January 1958, a remarkable Cistercian monk gave a retreat at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Abbey in Conyers, Georgia. Father Eugene Boylan, OCSO, who had an unmonk-like penchant for fast cars and long journeys, was well known for his insightful writing on mental prayer, and, though orthodox in matters of faith and spirituality, was in his day progressive in his understanding of the relative rightful place of devotions such as the Rosary, and in viewing a monk's occasional struggles with chastity as normal and not in itself a manifestation of sin. ("Religion," Boylan says, "can be obsessed by the whole matter of morality and sex" [p. 194].) In his spirituality, he was heavily influenced by Dom Columba Marmion, OSB (1858-1923), an Irish monk and important early 20th century spiritual writer. The retreat Fr. Boylan gave in Georgia was recorded, and then transcribed and edited by Chaminade Crabtree, OCSO to make this useful volume titled, PARTNERSHIP WITH CHRIST.According to the short biography by Nivard Kinsella, OCSO in the introduction to this book, Boylan as a young man in the years after World War I conducted scientific research in Vienna. During this time he had had a contentious exchange with psychotherapist Alfred Adler on the value of prayer--Adler saw no value in it--but came to see that Adler had a point insofar as criticizing those who would want to control others "by praying for them and dictating solutions to God" (pp. 181-82). After becoming a monk, Fr. Boylan helped found Tarrawarra Abbey in Australia (where he was spotted behind the wheel of a Jaguar). In the early 1960s, he returned to his roots at Mount St. Joseph Roscrea Abbey in Tipperary, Ireland, and became abbot. His life was sadly cut short in 1964 by an automobile accident, in which he had fallen asleep at the wheel of a car on his way to a funeral. The book is divided up into seventeen conferences with such headings as "Humility," "Poverty of Spirit," and "Humility and Obedience" (these being the first three conferences). They are each about a dozen pages in length; the relatively short length is quite conducive for use on self-guided retreats. (I would caution, from personal experience, not to attempt to tackle too much in the course of a week.) The style is casual and almost colloquial, as to be expected with essentially a written version of oral presentations. Due to the nature of the material, one will also find some repetition, most of it intentional. The theme of this retreat is "experiencing God's mercy." Fr. Boylan argues that God works through the sin of the sinner to make us holier. The sinner must have confidence in "the goodness of God," that God will work in our lives, even through our sins (as Boylan says, like an artist who incorporates ink blots into a picture [p. 201]); for this reason we must have confidence in God's mercy. Some say that once one has humility, one can accept God's mercy, but Fr. Boylan turns this around to say, only if one has confidence in God's mercy can one truly be humble. What's more, we need to let God decide how much of a saint we're going to be. What this means is accepting one's powerlessness. Despite what our culture says about the value of independence, we are totally dependent on God. I might think, well, I'm a sinful man, there's nothing I can do but accept my lot. That's the devil speaking, Fr. Boylan says. Again, it means believing in God's mercy and forgiveness. This is a message of real hope: God doesn't give up on you; don't give up on yourself! The Cistercians have a special devotion to Our Lady. Fr. Boylan takes up this theme as well, calling Mary the "perfect Cistercian" (p. 172) insofar as that the characteristics of her life were "ordinary, obscure, and laborious" (p. 171). Fr. Boylan reminds us that Mary is our mother, too, and so we must give her our thanks and love. "No one is more efficacious in uniting us to Christ than our Lady" (p. 176), Fr. Boylan points out.PARTNERSHIP WITH CHRIST is a small masterpiece of Cistercian spirituality. I highly recommend Fr. Boylan's book as spiritual reading at home or on retreat.
