I chose this rating, since it's the highest one you had available. Not kidding, Salvatore is one of the best. Rarely do you come across this level vividness and understanding of the world your being drawn into. Your given acute visions of the land, and its surroundings as clear to the reader as if you were there. As are the characters, they become as real as you or I. I could go on and on. But I'll leave that to you... R.A. Salvator truly is a gifted Storyteller. The legend of Drizzt, which consist of 23 volumes,all of which I highly recommend.

I came to these stories by first reading Homeland, so this is the fifth book that I have read of Drizzt. However, it definitely feels like a second book. I don't think that is a bad thing though. I like how there is a lot of character development especially in Cattie brie. That being said, there is not shortage of combat and excitement in this book either.The only thing that bugged me was the lack of talk of Drizzt's infrared vision abilities. This was talked about so heavily in the origin series, but it is not even touched upon in these books. My thought is that Mr. Salvatore came up with the IR vision later when he wrote the origin series to account for their vision in the constant darkness of the underdark.I think it is a great story and I thoroughly enjoyed each part. This is the first series of books that I have really used the Kindle/Audible Whispersync technology on and I really enjoyed being able to read more at home after my commute.

A well-deserved five star rating and if I can give a plus I would. What is amazing when it comes down to this third person omnipresent point of view story is just how well the author makes you feel for the characters, even the antagonist. There are some points in which the author will leave you holding your breath waiting to see what happens, even though I've read the book before I still had moments like this.Without spoiling anything, eat your heart out and Gimli.

High fantasy with cinematic action, and gut wrenching twists. The heroes face their most powerful nemesis without the help of Drizzt.Mithrall Hall is painted as the epitome of ancient dungeons filled with marvelous treasures and even greater threats.

Book 1 of the Legend of Drizzt series, Homeland, was a hard read at first with the long complicate names but once I got past that I really liked it and decided to keep reading. I've now read 25+ books from RA Salvatore and would recommend all Legend of Drizzt, Hunters Blade, Transitions, and Neverwinter books as great fantasy reads. Salvatore has such great character development and interesting new adventures that make you want to keep reading. There is a fair amount of fighting, if you're not into that I'd still recommend these books, just read through those parts fast.

Ah but you're a genius at yet craft Salvatore. Let us pray there is one more survivor at the bottom of the gorge. Tis entirely to soon for me King to have left his rightful halls.

This is not my first time reading the Drizzt series but the adventures of the drow elf and his companions has enraptured me since I was a young man. I have read this series many times over my 2 1/2 decades of life and I never tire of the story itself. It is so masterfully written that I can actually see this book playing out in my head as if on a television screen and I get so caught up in the battles that to this day I still cheer out loud when Artemis is foiled again or one of the gang puts down a ferocious monster... If I had to recommend any series in my life it would be this one as not only is it a great story it is also a very creative way of teaching Honor, Integrity, Strength and the belief that anything is possible if you have the heart to go for it.

I am the Executive Director of a small nonprofit with a Board of only 10 members.After attending a Board Governance conference, I returned to the office with more ideas than I could keep in my head. I ordered this little book and although I haven't read it page for page, it covers a great deal that was discussed in the conference. Before the next Board Retreat, I am thinking of ordering a book for each Board Member. Chapters cover most of the Board positions, but the value for me were the Appendices. I highly recommend this book for encouragement, ideas, and hopes that your Board works at its best level.

I ran (unsuccessfully) for a BoD position in a non-profit to which I belong, and really wanted to see information about the business of a board. In that way, this book was excellent.The assumption, though, is that all BoD are run well, and that they recognize the BUSINESS of the non-profit as well as its mission. Sadly, I find many don't. Many focus so much on the mission that they end up being inefficient, particularly in long-range planning and in budgeting. I see it over and over. The one in which I ran for office, for example, has no problem raising money, but has no concept of an operating budget and no interest in changing any business processes. Others I've seen spend so much time on fundraising that the mission sometimes suffers, or burn out volunteers with constant demands of the same few.I hope to find solutions. This book helped focus my thinking, but sadly more on what we need than on how I can help do it.

There are a TON of books out there about nonprofits & Boards & how to build a Board. Most are impractical for small nonprofits that don't have the bandwidth to implement even a fraction of their suggestions. Little Book of Boards is written specifically for a small nonprofit with one, maybe two employees. It's also for someone who's thinking about joining a Board, wants to join a Board, just started on a Board but with absolutely no Board experience. Erik wrote a thoroughly engaging book about a fictional small nonprofit & its newest Board Member that's easy to follow & completely realistic in incorporating into the fabric of my nonprofit.

Overall, this is a good book for very small nonprofits, encompassing the concerns of the board. It is well-organized and covers the spectrum of concerns in an easy-to-read manner. Further while it does cover dealing with a paid executive director, most of the material remaining is applicable to all volunteer organizations (AVO's).While the personal experiences of the author add to the flavor of the book's material, the text could have utilized more industry references and statistics to support the claims within. There remains a question of how well the suggestions would work outside the specific experience range of the author unfortunately, without such references. Further, the author admits to his bias as a past executive director and with some of the recommendations for nonprofit boards, such as the close interaction between the executive director and board chair in guiding overall strategy of an organization (as compared to other board members and the board chair, that bias is glaring.Still, the scope of activity and structure within it should make this a worthwhile resource for volunteers considering becoming board members and for those newly appointed in those roles. Overall, I recommend it.

This is a must read for anyone who is considering joining a non-profit board or someone who is already on a board. Gives you first hand information for the inner workings, your responsibilities as a board member, and what is normally expected of a board member.

Loved this book and wish I'd discovered it when I first got involved with my small non-profit. But I'm President now and I still found it useful. I wish I could give a copy to every new trustee.

Excellent resource. Practical, applied and proven information, not just theory. My board experience had me agreeing with most of the suggestions offered.

Very informative, but still enjoyable to read. This is a great book for those who don't know much about boards. Hanberg lays out the basics with clear examples and explanations. Comprehensive enough to not leave you hanging, and simple enough for it to be a practical tool.

The Reformation has been the subject of many works but Prof. Marshall's style, insight, and use of detailed sources provides the reader with a new look at how the Anglican Church evolved and how English society underwent profound change during the sixteenth century. With a command of the topic that is first-rate, the reader is provided with facts and thematic analysis that make for a great read and show the role religion played in the lives of the commoners, the priesthood, and the crown. Prof. Marshall's knowledge of Latin, Greek, and German text shows through. The book is a fine contribution to the area for any historian.

This book is already longer than the Bible, and could have been 2 or three times more lengthy and never varied from its theme of the reformation in England. But efforts such as this, which attempt to be exhaustive histories and commentaries, always let the reader down. The publisher should have insisted on at least 2 volumes, each with a less broad focus.Because I am so interested in the topic, I ended up buying the Kindle version as well as the hard copy. This enabled me to escape the tiny type used on its 672 pages; referring to the printed version only when I found the need to refer back to something earlier in this very ponderous tome (for all their benefits--and I love my Kindle reader for novels, etc.--E-readers generally are unworkable for what is essentially a reference or text book).This should not be the first book anyone reads on the English reformation, but for many of us, it likely will be the last.

Well, I do know the period fairly well, but what I gained was a whole new perspective on the complex dynamics of the English Reformation. Marshall is a historian who understands that history is messy because people are messy. It was rather the beginning of a struggle that started with Catholic uniformity and ended in the pluralist society that England has today, a struggle that took centuries and that in some ways is still incomplete. He handles in a masterful way the tensions between the shifting visions of politico-religious leaders and the attempts of ordinary people to accommodate those shifts in their daily lives. That messy process ended by placing ever more true power in the hands of the people and of those who could command their loyalty. Although the book closes at the end of the 16th century, the last chapter makes it clear that the upheavals of the Reformation did not really settle down until the Glorious (?) Revolution of 1688, and that the slower period of adaptation continued even after that.Although this is a massive book, it is exceptionally well written and very cleanly edited. It will take some time and concentration for the reader to get through it, but it will more than repay the effort.

A great book but I found THE Classroom Management Book (by the same author) more helpful than this one. The First Days of School sets the stage for the strategy of procedures in the classroom. THE Classroom Management Book fast-forwards through theory and shows real-life procedures that you can actually use. If you already have a good grasp of teaching philosophies or you've been teaching for more than a year, you can probably skip this one and go straight to the sequel.

I had always heard that this book was useful & was like the educator's bible, but when it arrived I wasn't sure if I would agree (it looks like an outdated book!). After reading the required chapters for class, I realized how true it was that this book was an educator's goldmine to pertinent information to make the first day of school go smoothly. I highly encourage young teachers to purchase this book & read it, & keep it in your library for years to come! There is so much useful information in here that I doubt many people would disagree with Wong's ideas!

One of the books in my teaching canon. Great for new teachers. Go slow to go fast! Spending time putting in routines, rituals, and expectations in the beginning of the year saves all kinds of teaching time and sorrow later in the year.

This is a great book for teaching at elementary level with innocent minds. Also, there are many good organizational tips. However, when teaching Algebra II to public high school students in a socially dysfunctional area where student respect for even society at large is in trouble, then this book fails to provide the character building plans to save such students.

This is great tool to help you get the year started off right! I read this book this summer before taking the online courses offered through Utah State University's STEDI program. I'm working as a substitute teacher and started the year off in a long term assignment, so this was a huge help in soothing my beginning of the year jitters and answering questions that I knew the answer to but offered reassurances. I find myself going back to it sometimes for new ideas and encouragement. It's great for the first time teacher just as much as for the seasoned teacher!

As an education student this book is a required reading for one of our classes. After going through the book I have to honestly say this book should have been required a lot earlier in the program as I have found the information in this book to be more helpful than any of the other books that we were required to read.The information by Harry K. Wong in this book is an absolute must for any new, or experienced, teacher. The book is not full of technical jargon, as many books on education are, and is written in a simple format that makes it an easy read. And to complete the entire package there is a website that goes along with the book that expands on much of the information in the book making it an even more invaluable resource.Harry K. Wong is my Educational Hero.

I love how it starts out with a warning that it's not a book for those who see teaching as a "job" but for those who see it an opportunity to change lives. There are so many great, practical ideas that I am already using - and LOVING the results! If you are a teacher, studying to be a teacher, or love a teacher you must read this book.A bonus for me was I got a used copy that someone had put notes in the margins with some additional ideas to add to the book - love it! It's like an exchange of great ideas. I know my students' educational experiences will be so much better because I have read (and am totally keeping for reference) this book!

Lubin's planner hits the sweet spot. Each day she asks a few provocative questions. Then she asks you to list 5 priority tasks (just the right number) to be completed that day. At the end of each day, week and month she asks you to reflect on your accomplishments.The book is visually lovely with illustrations capturing the season's beauty.
