One of the best, most concise and informative books on ancient history I've ever read. As a high school history teacher, this helped immensely with learning more about the content in a short yet detailed way. This is the content that allows me to tell my students about cool things in ancient history while also deepening my overall understanding of the subject.Cultures and parts of major civilizations are often summarized in 1-2 pages which really helps (shown in picture).

I had a later book in this Atlas series and felt I didn't have a proper baseline, so I bought this one. When it arrived my 11 year old son promptly co-opted the book and the only time I've seen it since is when I see him carrying it to somewhere to read.Anything that can make my son interested in learning is 100% great.

I had to order this book for an Ancient Civilizations class I am taking. It is really amazing. It has tons of detailed information including maps of each area/civilization and is highly organized. Although I had to get this for school- I will be holding onto it as a valuable reference book!! Penguin is such quality anyways- but as a very impressed student, I thought I would leave a review.

This particular book is very well written. The color pictures and maps are EXCEPTIONAL and clearly define different cultures and periods of history. The cost is worth what a person receives when they would purchase this book.

Broad coverage of ancient civilizations in Asia, Africa, India, the Near East, Europe and the Americas. Succinct but pithy descriptions. Excellent maps.

If you're like me, then you need things as simple as maps in order to help clarify which empires and peoples were organized geographically, throughout history. This is a great overview of historical periods and ancient groups of people. This not a great, in-depth historical tool depending on what you're looking for, but even if you're a professional historian you can greatly benefit and use the maps and information presented.Go grab a copy.

This is a good book for the non-specialist. If you have a general interest in History in general and in Ancient History in particular, this can help put the cities and civilizations you read about in other books on the map. There is a very, very brief introduction to each civilization and very helpful maps.Best enjoyed toegether with some other history book, just like I am doing right now.
