This book is well edited and does a good job of explaining an area of the law that is nearly unexplainable.

I've used this book in my Election Law class, both as a student and now as a law professor. I've found it extremely thorough in all respects. It accumulates every major piece of scholarship and case, no small feat, in its pages. It is nicely organized and structure with a natural flow, opening with the right to vote, carrying through the practical administration of elections, and concluding with campaign finance issues. My students have found it quite readable. And, best of all, it's about half the price of a typical legal casebook.

I've taught out of this excellent coursebook in recent years and am happy with it. It offers a broad survey of election law by editors who are thoroughly knowledgeable in the field. They present many of the relevant cases and authorities in the form of concisely written notes, making the length of the readings manageable for students and instructors alike. The editors’ comments on election law are fairminded, sophisticated, and well documented. Moreover, the book’s extensive references to political science literature illuminate many of the empirical realities that underlie the doctrinal controversies. The editors also publish regular updates in order to keep up with the latest trends in this rapidly evolving field. The book is especially strong in its coverage of election administration and the role of money in politics, including bribery and campaign finance regulation. All told, I would recommend the book highly to any potential instructor who is interested in breaking into the election law field. And it would make a good research reference for others as well.

This is one of the best casebooks in election law. It surveys the field broadly and authoritatively. The cases in it are nicely presented and superbly edited, and the notes following them succinctly summarize the important debates in the field. This casebook also uniquely devotes five entire chapters to campaign finance, giving that topic a seriousness and depth that no other publication can match. Campaign finance is the most important topic in American politics today. It is hard to imagine anyone ever treating its nuances and complexities as superbly as the authors of this book do.

I have taught law for almost 15 years, and this is the best casebook I have ever used. Not just the best Election Law casebook, but the best casebook on any subject. It is exceptionally well organized, very "teachable", and carefully re-edited for each new edition. Supplements are timely, and the authors are great about supporting faculty using the book. I highly recommend it.

This excellent book surveys the field of election law. The cases have been edited carefully, and the authors' notes are concise, thoughtful, and (rare for a casebook) helpful to students and teachers alike. I have taught from this book many times, and my students and I are always happy with it.

I hardly ever write reviews but I feel compelled to share my wife, Robyn's, experience after five weeks on Dr. Fuhrman's diet. At 190 pounds and 5' 8", she was about 50 pounds overweight. She had been on Glipizide for diabetes, Atenolol and Lisinopril for high blood pressure, and Gemfibrozil for high triglycerides. Her last A1C was 9.5; well in the danger zone for diabetics. Most of her fasting blood glucose readings were above 200.After the initial five weeks, she is off all of those medications. Her last blood pressure reading was 117/78. Her fasting glucose hovers around 90-100. She has already lost 15 pounds as well.Tonight, we decided to have a cheat meal. She ate a full filet of salmon with two cobs of corn and a full cup of great northern beans with onions and garlic. This is a meal with nearly 100 carbs that should have sent her blood glucose soaring. Two hours after this meal her blood glucose was 97! We didn't believe that was possible so we measured it a second time and it was 94.Needless to say, tomorrow we will be back on this diet permanently with only an infrequent special occasion to interrupt it. The food is satisfying and the results are phenomenal!If you suffer from type 2 diabetes but are willing to dedicate yourself to this diet, make no mistake, it will reverse your disease and give you a great chance at a long, complication-free life.Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman!8-17-2016 UPDATENew test results from recent blood work:Triglycerides six week ago - 259. Now 110Total cholesterol six weeks ago - 193. Now 173.A1C six weeks ago - 8.9. Now 7.3. (Since A1C is a three month average that 7.3 is taking into account the prior two months of pre-diet eating. When adjusted for that, it actually would be an A1C for the last month of around 5.0.)Blood pressure: 118 over 72.All without medication and only four weeks on the diet!

Great information in the book. My only complaints are: The recipes to follow in this book are ridiculous. The doctor calls for a lot of special seasonings and sauces from his website that are $$$. And he uses carrot juice as a base for a lot of stuff- and it is expensive. Unless you have your own juicer and want to buy a ton of carrots to keep up with what the recipes call for. Take home I got is to eat a more plant based diet. Limit meats- eat more beans/nuts... Cut the refined carbs. Eat fruit... there is a membership to this doc's website, but I decided not to get it bc the docs recipes are not practical and the membership is pricey.

This book has totally changed my life! I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in early October. After seeing my results online, I was on Amazon looking at diabetic cookbooks as I knew I was going to have to totally change my diet. I came across this book and the title caught my eye. I read what I could online and immediately had it sent to my Kindle so I could begin reading it right away. When I received the diagnosis, I refused to go on medication and allow this diagnosis to control my life. I started this eating plan on October 14th. In 6 weeks my A1C dropped my 11% to 6.9%! I had also lost 30 pounds. My doctor was amazed and I am on no medication. It was a little hard at first, because I was used to eating a lot of fast food, cookies, crackers etc.. and I knew this would be a big change for me. But when you begin to understand what all the bad food is doing to your body, it gives you a whole new understanding. Though a couple of times at the beginning I was tempted to not continue I had to remind myself what was at stake. Either go on medication to "manage" my diabetes or totally changed my eating lifestyle and not be on any medication. I also had my lipid panel checked again on Jan. 12th, and my cholesterol numbers have completely reversed and are amazing and my blood pressure is also great. I have lost a total of 40 pounds and am no longer shopping "plus size" clothes. Several people at work have commented on my weight loss and have asked me what I'm doing. I have shared this book with so many people including my two sisters and the nurse at my Dr.s office also wanted to know what I was doing. If you have type 2 diabetes, you need to buy this book! It will totally change your life!

I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes and put on Metformin on June 26th, 2013. I started the ADA diet and followed it 100% for a few weeks and could not get my blood sugar to go below 140. Finally i began to panic and called my doctor, he told me to get used to it. He said I would be on metformin my whole life and eventually insulin. At that point i knew something wasn't right and began to do a lot of research. On July 13th I went to the book store and found this book after looking at 10 or so others. I read the book from end to end that night because everything Dr. Fuhrman was saying made absolute sense. I started the diet that day and the next morning my blood sugar was down to 100, the next day was in the 90's and now i have a fasting blood sugar between Mid 70's and the 80's. My doctor took me off the metformin after just one week of being on this lifestyle change. I have lost over 30 pounds in a month. I now work out twice a day and still have tons of energy. I have lost 6+ inches around my waist and I am off my high blood pressure medication too. I have about 20 more pounds to go till my body finds its ideal weight. The great news is, this is a lifestyle I can live with, it makes sense and it works. God Bless Dr. Fuhrman. I wish the ADA would stop enabling consumers and tell them the truth. You can get off the drugs, you can help yourself, but you have to have a correct lifestyle and diet. No more processed foods.

I have pretty much all of Andrew Lommis' books on drawing but somehow still feel intimidated by FunWithAPencil probably because of its uber professionalism. But then I started taking a how to draw course by TheGreatCourses and was open and receptive to authors in the field of art I've never even heard of such as Jack. I stumbled across this book whilst researching his figure drawing book and decided to get Cartooning instead because I am a BASIC beginner whose decided to kill her ego and just go all the way way back to the basics. I love how this book doesn't intimidate or condescend me at all and instead shows that art can be begun by the most basic lopsided child's circle and still have personality! He's basically breaking down the human anatomy into its most basic shapes instead of hounding you with fancy Latin words and different parts of the anatomy that are drawn so meticulously that you don't know whether you are supposed to copy them down or not. The book is formatted in a surprisingly self paced feel which is interesting given the time it was created in- a time when everyone had to go to college conform and get a degree and a job and then just stick with what you got. But I absolutely love how Jack gives you just the right amount of information. This book is almost like an artists recipe with equal parts words for info and the FYI folks and equal parts pictures examples and demos! As one reviewer said about giving it as a gift to a ten year old and the ten year old just automatically classified it under "oh a book." *wompwompwooooomp* I wouldn't recommend this to a child simply because it'sA) educationalB) meant for the serious doodlerBesides, children these days in the year 2017 don't read or draw anymore, so why would you give them a book? For their birthday? I'd only recommend this book to the parents of a child who is obviously gonna be our next Stan Lee , with a serious imagination that just cannot be contained in ones head :)

This is fun, easy, instructive; for amateur 'doodlers' and serious apprentices alike; and even people who already draw cartoons can learn something new... and find out how cartoons were made in the past. It's pretty interesting, even for those who draw cartoons on a computer.The style of the cartoons in this book is somewhat old fashioned. Don't expect instructions for modern style, extensively elaborated cartoons or manga here. But in any case this book still is a recommended resource, as the techniques always are current and easily can be adapted for digital drawing.

This book is a sort of encyclopedia of cartoon styles. It is a very useful reference. I would say that it will be more helpful for someone who has been drawing a bit than a total newbie. It does not cover any of the basic fundamentals of drawing, so if you have never drawn before, you may want to start with a simpler book. The best simple cartooning book that won't overwhelm someone who has never drawn at all is Al Ross's Cartooning Fundamentals. In my opinion, it is one of the best books on drawing that exists.

I first got this book years ago, playing around with cartooning and such. Been doing it ever since and have bought this book a few times over to replace used and beat up copies. This particular copy I bought for a 10 year old's birthday. And being 10 years old, he opened it and classified it under 'oh a book' and went outside to play with his birthday party buddies. But that's what kids do. Ha ha, what a shame, cause this book is great.Great reference book for different angle hands, postures, and especially the section on facial expressions, which is cross referenced with each other.There is a lot of information in this book, and very clearly, er, illustrated. Your reading it to help learn and practice drawing, not learn a history of cartooning or how to make a living doing this, and the book doesn't weigh itself down with these things.If you need a good practice reference book, pick it up. I would find it hard to believe, if anyone happened to mention, that any western cartoonist didn't have this on his desk or within easy reach. Standard book for a cartoon artist's collection.If your thinking of buying this but worrying about it's publication date, remember that cartooning hasn't changed that much. The mediums have, but you still have to cartoon the head and figure. Pencils and Ink will never die, regardless of the advancement of RGB graphic assimilation.

A vintage, great book I used in childhood in my drawing studies. I bought this for my daughter, and it has helped her learn more variations of emotions on faces, etc. Great tool to have handy if you like to draw.

I've purchased many sketching books and I've never been disappointed with any of Jack Hamm's books. He provides more information in his books than a great many other authors and his work is really wonderful. In fact, he is the only author that I would purchase just because it was him. Clear and concise. There have been some of his works that I was hesitant about, but as soon as I had the chance to look through them, I new I didn't need to be. This was one of those books.

The Inspiring Grandmother, 90 Day Devotional (Our Daily Bread) with Doris Rikkers and Jeannette Taylor as editors. This includes selections written by various Chritian women authors such as Elisa Morgan, Cynthia Heald, Karen Kingsbury, Ruth Graham, Carol Cymbala and one of my favorite Thelma Wells.In the credits it states that most of the articles first appeared in The Grandmother’s Bible which is published by Zondervan. I was not familiar with this Bible but thought it might be helpful for some to know this. I thoroughly enjoyed these devotions in this collection. Like the Our Daily Bread, the articles are short but meaningful. The focus is on Christ, increasing our faith along with praying for our grandchildren to do likewise.The prayers at the end were also helpful, serving as a guide for my own personal ones. The one thing that I noticed is that the prayer for grandchildren did not always go along with the devotional but the one for the reader did. Often I chose to modify the grandmother’s personal prayer to reflect more of the devotional theme. I found that this made my prayer time more specific for each of my grandchildren. 4.5 StarsThe publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my opinion and thoughts.

have been looking for a devotional to purchase for my mother for Mother’s Day and was thankful to be sent this book from the publisher and NetGalley. One of the best, most concise and informative books on ancient history I've ever read. As a high school history teacher, this helped immensely with learning more about the content in a short yet detailed way. This is the content that allows me to tell my students about cool things in ancient history while also deepening my overall understanding of the subject.Cultures and parts of major civilizations are often summarized in 1-2 pages which really helps (shown in picture).

I had a later book in this Atlas series and felt I didn't have a proper baseline, so I bought this one. When it arrived my 11 year old son promptly co-opted the book and the only time I've seen it since is when I see him carrying it to somewhere to read.Anything that can make my son interested in learning is 100% great.

I had to order this book for an Ancient Civilizations class I am taking. It is really amazing. It has tons of detailed information including maps of each area/civilization and is highly organized. Although I had to get this for school- I will be holding onto it as a valuable reference book!! Penguin is such quality anyways- but as a very impressed student, I thought I would leave a review.

This particular book is very well written. The color pictures and maps are EXCEPTIONAL and clearly define different cultures and periods of history. The cost is worth what a person receives when they would purchase this book.

Broad coverage of ancient civilizations in Asia, Africa, India, the Near East, Europe and the Americas. Succinct but pithy descriptions. Excellent maps.

If you're like me, then you need things as simple as maps in order to help clarify which empires and peoples were organized geographically, throughout history. This is a great overview of historical periods and ancient groups of people. This not a great, in-depth historical tool depending on what you're looking for, but even if you're a professional historian you can greatly benefit and use the maps and information presented.Go grab a copy.

If you have a general interest in History in general and in Ancient History in particular, this can help put the cities and civilizations you read about in other books on the map. There is a very, very brief introduction to each civilization and very helpful maps.Best enjoyed toegether with some other history book, just like I am doing right now.
